Some Youth Football Training Drills

By Nelda Powers

Among all of the team sports in the entire world. The sport known as football is actually known to be one of the roughest and the toughest in the field. It is for this reason that each of the players have to really strong and would have to know how to fend for themselves when on the field. Of course it is the duty of the coach to be able to train the players to become strong by making them undergo some youth football training drills.

One of the first drills that one would be doing would be the jump squat. In this sport, leg power is extremely important because one will need to be jumping really high and running really fast. Sometimes he will be bursting into a sprint when he sees the opponent coming over to tackle him.

In order to do the jump squat, one must first acquire a squatting position wherein he squats down. After making a squat, then he would jump into the air and then bend his legs while in mid air. He has to then repeat doing this exercise and strengthen his leg muscles in the process.

The second drill that would be very beneficial to the players is known as the recovery exercise. This is the exercise that is specially designed for football and would help the player with hand balance. In a nutshell, this is training so that one will be able to balance his running and will also be able to get used to catching and passing the ball while he is sprinting.

To do this, one must first put a cone in front of the player followed by another one five yards from the first one and a last one ten yards from the first one. Now the catch here would be to simply run around the cone and touch the ground beside each of the cones there. While running around, make sure to switch the ball from the right hand to the left and from the left to the right after running each cone.

Then there would be the over speed drill which would increase the running speed of the player. Basically, the coach would have to find a rather steep hill wherein the players can run down fast. The catch here is that the players have to run down without falling on the ground.

Of course everyone knows about the dummy tackling drill. Known to be one of the most common, it is a drill wherein one would increase his overall body strength. In a nutshell, the coach has to put a few dummies on the field and let each player push his own respective dummy to a far end.

So basically, those are some of the youth football training drills that are commonly used by coaches in general. These drills are used in order to strengthen the entire body of the player and have him gain some skills as well. That way, he and the team will be able to be in tip top condition during the game and gain victory over the opponent.
