Some Reasons To Join The Military

By Marissa Velazquez

The military is the name that is given to an organization that is given authorization by a society to apply legal force in order to defend a country, as well as its inhabitants. There are multiple branches that exist within this organization, each with their own set of duties. Generally, those who have or do serve are known for being honorable citizens for their service to a country. There are positives and negatives that come with this type of service and varying reasons to join the military.

A common reason that people sign up for this is because of the educational benefits. For a lot of people, college is an option that they would like to pursue, but may not fit in their budget without taking out multiple loans and utilizing financial aid. The American military is known to provide those who serve with the opportunity to get educated through various programs. These help pay for all or a portion of the cost of college.

Money may also drive a person to register. Even the entry-level positions available can offer a fair salary. The organization might also comp living arrangements. As an individuals becomes more experience, he or she may go up in ranking and be given a better salary and additional benefits.

This work may require going to combat and other strenuous tasks. Luckily, many service persons are given good medical coverage. It can be hard finding good plans for families and individuals. Said benefits usually come with no co-pays, deductibles or annual fees.

People who join do not always consider this to be their end all. In some cases, it is just an opportunity that they want to take advantage. It can be a source or reliable work and benefits, as well as the chance to take on new skills and experience, direction and discipline. People who have served for many years may decide to retire ahead of schedule, and begin collecting their pay and benefits.

Some individuals join just for an experience. Most service people get to travel and might even take up residence at a military station in another country. This allows for exposure to new things and cultures. The work done while enlisted may be applied in other jobs as well.

Not everyone needs all of these reasons to join. In fact, there are some who do it merely to keep in line with family tradition. In other cases, this is done primarily to give back. Others do so for camaraderie. In fact, a lot of people meet best friends and spouses during their time. There are even people who do it for no reason at all other than to try something new and learn more about themselves.

There are many reasons to join the military, most are subjective. Some do it for a career, others for an education. It may be about having stable benefits and money for some service people, and more about the people, memories, gained skills and experience to others. No matter the reasoning, it should be the final choice of the person who would be enlisting.
