The Secret Science Of Getting Rich

By John W. Barker

Wallace D. Wattles spent a life time studying and writing about the laws of success. He studied the great philosophers and contemporary writers. Wallace was convinced that wealth is attracted, as is poverty and every other condition. He taught that barriers could be overcome and success attained by mental discipline. He also advocated building wealth through creation and not competition. His book was first published in 1910.

By understanding universal truths such as 'all things are energy' the secret science of getting rich teaches us that we are the answer to the wealth we seek. Many search for wealth outside themselves not realizing that the answers were within them. By using the power of mental projection to form a clear mental image of what is desired, it is possible to bring those desires into material form. For those who have read 'The Secret' and 'The Law of Attraction,' these fundamental teachings may seem familiar. But for those who have never heard of them, it may either seem revolutionary or skeptical. Either way, whether you choose to believe or not, these truths exist and affect everything on the material plane including our bank accounts.

Wallace then sets forth the principles of getting rich. Those principles are:Thought is the only power which can produce tangible wealth from formless substance.Man can form things in his thought and by impressing his thoughts upon formless substance (raw materials) he can cause the things he imagines to be created.A man's way of doing things is the direct result of the way he thinks about things. To think what you want is to think truth, regardless of appearance. There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made, and which, in its original state, permeates, penetrates and fills the interspaces of the universe.

There is a final, very important part of this and that is to be grateful. Give thanks for the things that you are creating and which will be in your hands soon. Give thanks as if you have already received them and then release the thought of them. Do this daily and then release the care of obtaining them. The process of The Science of Getting Rich can be enhanced with hypnosis. In fact just going through the visioning process you may find yourself entering a state of hypnosis whether or not you understand what it is and that is good. Hypnosis will enhance the quality of your vision and thus make you more successful at accomplishing your outcome.

He describes with particularity the way you must form clear pictures in your mind of what you want to attain it. He teaches the strength and the power of focused and disciplined intent.Wattles' teaching was not new in 1910 and we recognize in it much of the "new age" thinking on manifesting and creating that is common in thousands of books today. He taught visualization, pioneered by William James and others, and the power of intent, attitude and the disciplined mind. You see his influence in the work of Napoleon Hill and others including many of today's leading authors, philosophers and teachers.

While he is didactic and somewhat narrow in his theory and advocacy, insisting for example that the reader read no other works on success or wealth building other than his book, he has a lot to offer the contemplative mind and was truly a pioneer in many areas of self improvement teaching.Wattles wrote in the common style of the early 20th century. He wrote reasonably well but the text tends to be somewhat pedantic. It lacks the outline format of modern nonfiction literature. If you put a bit of effort forth it is well worth it. If you do not want to work at all at reading this may not be for you.

Think and Grow Rich argues that getting rich is a definite chief aim, a right so to speak, and it calls for a systematic approach as well, called the law of the mastermind. It now is a matter of recognizing the path to getting rich. Wattles first talks of the first principles in the science of getting rich and soon enough goes on to list the value one must look into. He talks of increasing life, gratitude, thinking in the certain way, how to use the will, acting in the certain way, getting into the right business and ends with the impression of increase, the advance of man and some precautions and concluding observations.Minus the final lesson which summarizes the points, Wattles discusses the science of getting rich in 16 lessons.

Even though Wattles focuses a lot on visualizing what you want, having a clear mental image, and behaving as if you already have what you want, taking personal action is stated outright in many sections. "When you know what to think and do, then you must use your will to compel yourself to think and do the right things... You must not rely upon thought alone, paying no attention to personal action. That is the rock upon which many otherwise scientific metaphysical thinkers meet shipwreck--the failure to connect thought with personal action."This time around, I enjoyed reading The Science of Getting Rich and I saw things I do not remember seeing before. Despite the name, it's quite uplifting and inspiring, and it teaches many lessons such as a grateful heart, humility and thinking abundantly. Here are some takeaways from the book, which will appear familiar to you.

Everything first started with a thought. You have to imagine what you want before it is manifested.Everything is created from one thing, energy - in many different forms.Man is capable of original thought and has the capacity to cause the creation of what he thinks about. You have the ability to become who you want to be, and create what you want to create.Take action now.Live for the body, mind and soul - all are equally important for us to live fully.People do best in a business that they like and that they have the necessary skills for, but getting rich is not dependent on any particular business.Opportunity comes from different directions, and there is an abundance of opportunities. Go with the tide instead of swimming against it.There is more than enough for all.The way you do things is a result of the way you think about them. You are in a better position to help others, if you first help yourself to realize your true potential.Create instead of competing.Give more in "use" value than you take in "cash" value. So if you sell a book, the content must have a higher value than the cost of the book.Think big, think abundance and go for the grande. The more grateful you are, the more you receive. To become the best, surround yourself with the best

There is no long-winding path to thread, only a brief, direct to the point road to success. Getting rich comes as a result of doing the right things at the right time. One who does the right things gets rich. One who does not do the right things, even if he keeps on exerting effort, will remain poor. This is not based on anything beyond one's reach. The path to getting rich however starts with getting to know how to simplify everything and how to focus one's sight in the systematic run towards success. There will be no need for many things to do. It is clear from the suggestions made in these two works that by doing exactly what they prescribe, success is inevitable. This is what makes things simple. Just do what is said. The two masterpieces clearly outline in very simple 16 lessons the qualities which one must possess in order to achieve success. It is all a matter of knowing what these qualities are. Or perhaps it's a matter of seeing how simple things really are.
