Save Your Marriage With Stress Management

By Darci Alishouse

When more than 50% of marriages end in divorce you have to wonder how they began. Did the newly engaged couple go into their wedding knowing that they would end up in divorce court? Or more likely did they start our with great hope and then the realities of life, kids, finances, careers, wear away at their relationship. If this same couple had been able to implement stress management could they save their marriage?

Weddings are great. There's usually cake and everybody is just so optimistic, they are really charming. The bliss of early marriage is well documented in sappy films and beautiful poetry. It's what we want love to be like all of the time, we don't ever want it to change.

Relationships do change. Relationship problems arise and they aren't usually caused by some catastrophic event but more of a slow grinding away of the giddiness. The daily pressures of life, the stress of work and kids wears away at even the best of us and can cause major marriage problems.

When we do bend under the constant pressures of our lives it is usually the person to whom we are closest, our spouse, that we turn to, or more to the point, turn on. We become tense and unhappy and the first person we see that we can pin all of our problems on is our husband/wife. Resentment, friction and anger are the end result of these mishandled emotions.

Handling your daily pressures differently could be the answer to saving your marriage. Taking some time to incorporate stress management and bringing your stress levels down can lower your negative reactions to your spouse and bring your relationship into a better place.

Stress management is a rather general term. One of the most important things you can do to handle stress is admit that you have stress and that it is effecting you. If you can do that you can then start exercising, use stress reducing supplements or many other things to lower your stress levels.

Making stress management a priority can literally save your marriage. Imagine living with less pressure, less anxiety, less moments when you're ready to explode. It's healthier, more serene and not only you will be happier but your husband or wife will be happier too.
