How Some Christian Churches In Las Vegas Are Organized In Service

By Raymond Stone

Preparing an agenda for any meeting is important for it to be organized and have a sense of direction. Apart from secular gatherings, church meetings also follow some format even though it is not usually so strict as compared to what secular organizations do. Since the main owner of the gathering is Jesus, people are so mindful when it comes to church matters that the timing for activities can change depending on how the Holy Spirit leads them. Christian churches in Las Vegas also have a pattern they try to stick to during service.

The first thing you should expect is an opening prayer. In some churches, this comes after the procession made by the priests, the moderators for each meeting, the people's warden, the pastor's warden, and the preachers for the day. The cross is usually carried during the procession signifying that the gathering is for Jesus Christ who is unarguably the owner of the church that has gathered.

After the procession and prayer, the Bible readers come on stage to read from different parts of the Bible. They read the Old Testament and the New Testament too. This is different from the message which comes up much later so there is usually no form of interpretation after the reading. Some ministers use the same passages read during the lessons to form the texts for their message.

The band starts their own business after the lessons have been read. They lead the congregation in singing praise and worship songs to the Maker. Usually, some of their songs for every Sunday are predetermined during weekly meetings before the Sunday so as to suit the type of service. However, even after the selection sometimes, they allow God to move by receiving fresh inspiration from Him.

The message comes from the priest or anyone he approved before the service. This can take 30 minutes and above because it is perceived to be the most important moment in every church meeting. Different Bible passages are read so members are advised to come with writing materials. An altar call is usually made at the end of the message.

The offerings are collected after the message. Offering time is regulated by the band whose job it is to spur the congregation to give. People are allowed to dance all the way to the altar where the offering box may be placed. Several offerings are collected and the members are expected to give according to how the Lord has blessed them.

Announcements come almost at the end of the service. This is also the time when the church would want to know the people that are coming around for the first time. The first timers are welcomed with a song and they are led to see a follow-up coordinator or the welfare coordinator.

The last thing that happens is the recession. The church recesses just the same way it was processed. A hymn which is quite popular is taken but there is usually a hymn book for those who cannot sing it by heart. At the end of the recession, the priest gives his final blessing for the week and the congregation is set to disperse to their different homes. Various cell meetings may hold for few minutes just to remind their members of what may be coming up soon.
