Tips On Dealing With Failure To Launch Anxiety

By Jeffrey Cole

Young adults get anxious and even fail to become. This is a common phenomenon in a world that is becoming increasingly stressful. The good news for teens and young adults with Failure to Launch Anxiety is that it can be reversed. For parents and guardians, something can be done to reverse the situation. Here are excellent tips from professionals on how to handle this condition.

Stop being too accommodating. It is normal for parents to find a way of helping their children overcome the situation. Some of the steps taken are weird, including hiring girlfriends for them. Do not provide this comfort because it leaves the teens or young adults with little to think about. Take away the comfort gradually and they will begin to find it elsewhere. Stop cleaning after them or providing allowances. This will act as a wakeup call.

Do not judge the situation harshly. FTL is considered a mental condition that requires a calculated approach. By judging, you lower self esteem and increase stress. Be firm but passive in trying to get the person out of the shell. By forcing things to happen, the situation might break. Ensure that the situation takes the most positive approach possible.

All players have a solution to provide. It is futile to expect the teen or young adult to provide a solution alone. Guardians and parents have a role to play. Adults in his or her life must also show the way by example. The appointed specialist will also have a contribution to make. Parents and guardians have to play their part in being firm about the change that must happen. This will encourage the victim to take reciprocal action.

The people involved with the victim should be working in a team. These people are usually friends, parents and therapists. Unless they can speak and act in one voice, the subject will not change. The most unfortunate bit will be parents taking one side while the appointed therapist takes another. Failure to work in one direction means that you will not achieve the desired results. One will be deflating the efforts of the other.

The small steps taken must be appreciated. It is joyful for parents when their children take the small steps. They gain confident and begin to take up crucial skills. Encourage and appreciate the small steps taken in order to get better results in future. Do not expect too much. Further, when a small step is taken, it is likely to lead to another. If it does not, do not be disappointed. Reinforce the current step taken.

Be realistic and supportive in your actions. For instance, if the kid has to get a job by June, you must encourage him or her to send CVs and even ask your friends to take him or her in. As June approaches, you should be firm. Through support and consistent action, the anxiety will sublime as something positive happens.

Hope is an important ingredient in providing a solution. The victim is struggling enough to make the small steps. Encourage him or her and show that it is possible. Even when the outcome is not satisfactory, provide hope that further action will lead to better results. Without hope, all the efforts you will be putting towards changing the situation will be useless. By providing hope, you make what appears difficult to look possible.
