Considering Using Soy For Night Sweats

By Mia Escobedo

Many women when going through the menopause will visit their doctor and ask for help to alleviate the symptoms. In some cases the physician will prescribe a long term course of drugs which are deigned to reduce hot flashes. More women these days are looking into natural solutions and if you are thinking of using soy for night sweats there are a few things to consider beforehand.

Medical physicians will have an approved list of medication that they can give you to combat menopausal symptoms. The most popular is a drug called HRT and many women have used it successfully. In some cases using this drug has resulted in the women suffering some side affects and so a natural remedy may be a better option.

In recent years a lot of women have started drinking soy milk to help them with their sweats while they are sleeping. The soy contains phytoestrogens which can counteract the chemicals which cause the sweats and flashes. Although this has not been medically approved as yet there have been some good results for many and there is a lot of on going research.

In some recent reports investigating the use of soy there have been some mixed findings and things are still not completely clear. Some patients have said that they have experienced some digestive problems and other adverse effects after using soy. There is still a lot of research to be done into its use and until then the full facts will be unavailable.

There have been some medical reports that have said using soy may increase the risks of women getting cancer. Some breast cancer patients have been advised not to use soy due to the estrogen. This is not set in stone though and there have been findings that have stated that it can prevent or slow down cancers. If you are or have been a cancer patient and are considering using soy it is advisable to consult your general practitioner beforehand.

If you decide that you are going to try soy to help with your symptoms there are many ways to take it. Milk is probably the most popular but many people also use soy beans when cooking and this can be very beneficial. Some of the vegetarian foods that are offered for sale in stores also contain soy and these can be a good source of this alternative medicine.

When you are using an alternative therapy to combat unpleasant symptoms there are some things to bear in mind. After taking the soy for a while and there is no improvement then it maybe not the correct remedy for you. If it does work and there are no side effects then there is no reason why you should not continue with the natural solution to your problems.

Any course of drugs or alternative therapy has effects and your doctor should be consulted for advice before starting. If you are in general good health, eat the right foods and exercise you will respond to any treatments much better. There is a lot of published information and facts regarding the use of soy and you should read as much of this as you can before making your decision.
