By undergoing blepharoplasty Dayton OH residents can improve their vision and look more attractive as well as younger.

People can undergo eyelid surgery either for cosmetic or medical reasons. Cosmetic eye surgery is performed solely to enhance appearance. It is ideal for people who have droopy eyelids due to the aging process. The results of cosmetic eye surgery can last for ten years, depending on how healthy a person is and various other factors.

Functional blepharoplasty on the other hand is usually carried out for medical reasons. It is usually performed to remove loose skin if the upper eyelid that is droopy enough to affect vision. You can also undergo this procedure if you find it difficult to put on contact lenses or eye glasses due to sagging upper or lower eyelids. This procedure can also correct excess folds of the eyelid that rub together, causing irritation.

The professionals who commonly perform medically necessary blepharoplasty are ophthalmologists and oculoplastic surgeons. Nevertheless, this kind of surgery is also carried out by oral and maxillofacial surgeons, otolaryngologists and general cosmetic surgeons. This surgery is usually performed in a day clinic or the office of a doctor. It is not necessary for patients to remain in the hospital overnight after the procedure is completed.

Before a surgeon schedules the procedure, he or she will evaluate you for risk factors such as dry eye problems, diabetes and thyroid eye disease. If you are suffering from any serious health condition, the surgeon may advise you not to undergo blepharoplasty. If you smoke, he or she may ask you to stop smoking for a few weeks before the scheduled surgery date. The reason for this is that smoking raises the risk of complications since it delays healing.

Before the procedure, you can be placed under local or general anesthesia. Your surgeon can enhance local anesthesia by injecting systemic sedatives into your veins or ask you to take them by mouth. You may need general anesthesia if the eyelid surgery is more complex or if you plan to undergo another cosmetic procedure at the same time.

As they perform blepharoplasty, surgeons cut along the natural folds of the eyelids so that the incisions will be invisible after they heal. They then use various surgical tools like cutting lasers, surgical scissors, radio frequency cutting tools and scalpels to remove the excessive fat or skin. After that, they apply tissue adhesives to the area in order to reconfigure and smooth the eyelids.

After performing blepharoplasty, surgeons usually apply antibiotic ointments on the operated area. After getting home, patients can reduce swelling and bruising by applying cold packs to the eyelids each hour they are awake for approximately 10 to 15 minutes at a time. On the second day, they can apply cold packs on the eyelids every several hours for approximately 10 to 15 minutes at a time. Patients can also ease discomfort by taking the pain medications that their surgeons recommend.
