Disadvantages Of Anonymous Alcohol Groups That Lead To Participants Saying I Hate AA

By Jerry Ross

The secret alcohol meetings were established several years ago. With the aim and purpose being to help those who are addicted to alcohol to recover. The session is optional, and a person is not forced to attend but attend willingly. The individual is required to confess that they are powerless. Studies have shown that those who participate in the meetings end up saying I hate AA because it is not useful.

The treatment process works by telling the individuals that the disease is incurable and that they have no control over it. Psychologists have shown that this can be used by the gatherings as an excuse when they relapse. Psychologist think that self-empowerment is what helps characters recover. When they are told they become helpless members may feel hopeless and end up giving up.

Seminars involve adherents sharing their experiences. This stories may make clients sympathies with their friends. This may lead to development and increased level of stress leading to establishment of other medical conditions such as drug-induced psychosis. These stories may make new followers to lose hope when they learn about time and struggle that their supporters have gone through while trying to recover.

At the groups there are people with various characteristics and motives. The decision to attend the support group is personal. This helps in ensuring that those who attend the consultations go there with the aim of recovering. However, this is not usually the case for members because some individuals participate in get-together to avoid punishments.

The gatherings are made of numerous followers who share their experiences and problems and are assisted by other adherents to help deal with situation. Most of the addicts find it hard to share their difficulties with many people, and others are uncomfortable when in presence of many people this has led to them failing to share or avoiding the meetings altogether.

Lots of sobriety seminars discourage individuals from taking part in activities that do not involve its members. This can cause clients to detach from their family and friends. This may result in isolating people and major health problems like depression and loneliness which increase the chances of alcohol use. The supporters are also discouraged from using other forms of treatment. This may make recovery difficult to attain.

The process makes participants to be depended on the group. After getting used to attending the meeting most of the clients find it hard to stop visiting. The sessions give supporters an opportunity to reach individuals who have recovered to help them through the process. The recovering member can easily find themselves being depended to this people and might find it hard to let them go even after the period of group attendance ends.

Staying in the group may be helpful, but individuals may find it had to leave the group. This occurs because members are taught to manage themselves and that they should remain in an assembly to avoid relapse. The crowds do not put in efforts or mechanisms that can get used by people after completing their time in the assembly. This makes them feel helpless and may end up staying or relapsing when they get forced to leave the seminar.
